"While boasting pentagenarian status one evening my children informed me “I’m ugly for young but pretty for old”! I thanked them for their outspoken forthrightness, sent them straight to bed with no electronic devices, poured some tequila in my chocolate milk and reminded myself I’m just real, like us all. As landscaper’s of our lives we create and pursue what we choose, for me, it's not just the view in my mirror that counts it's embracing the view of me, in yours." Bethel D.
Bethel grew up in an everchanging environment . Discipline and challenges coupled with an insatiable joy of performing set the stage for her path as an entertainer. Ballet began at four and violin at nine. Inspired by the Greats of her day she set foot on the stage and has never stepped off. A metamorphosis occurred from her youth at Margaret Nelson's dance studio outside Chicago to Los Angeles where ballet instructor Mahri Koshover set the tone to reach for the highest standards and take pride in not only being a dancer but part of the arts, the entertainment family. Bethel's professional career bloomed upon her return from New York University (immersed with Merce Cunningham- She never realized the sandboxes she was preparing herself to play in). One had to juggle jobs with dance study, teaching and auditions. Dancers in the 80's became very empowered in Los Angeles and Bethel got to participate with Dancers Alliance that secured longtime needed recognition and pay scale guidelines with unions AFTRA and SAG. Inspired that actions can make a change, Bethel coupled her human behavior studies with a professional dance career.
She was honored to perform and mature her skills with greats. Mikhail Baryshnikov, Michael Jackson and Cher are a few on her resume. She toured nationally with Kenny Ortega 's Dirty Dancers and Rollerblade's Extreme Team then Danced in Showtoppers in Las Vegas. As an adult, while raising two children on Maui, Bethel began a serious effort at sharpening her vocal skills. She has written and recorded a non-released CD "Next Generation" which is currently only available to hear on this website. It's education "with a beat". In it she shares what she gleaned from her tutelage under Dr. John Demartini (studies of Balance, Quantum Physics applied to human physiology and psychology. A life of gratitude is her goal and to do what she loves and love what she does. WARNING: It's contagious
